La Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor
Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 2:58PM The La Aroma De Cuba Mi Amor is the newest addition to the La Aroma line. Like the rest of the LADC's, this is now blended by Don Pepin Garcia for Ashton. This cigar has a Nicaraguan filler and Binder, and a Mexican Maduro wrapper. This is the second time Pepin has used Mexican tobacco, and I have a feeling that there are going to be many more cigars coming out in the near future with this wrapper. The Mi Amor I am reviewing is the Robusto, measuring in at 5x50.
This cigar has a very dark wrapper with very few veins and has a nice toothyness to it. This has a slight cuban style box press to it (not as severe a press as most box pressed cigars) and a perfectly applied triple cap. The appearance of this cigar really reminds me of the Padron Anniversary series, with the dark wrapper and slight press to it. There is a very strong aroma coming off this cigar. I can smell it as soon as the cellophane is removed, even before I took a whiff of the foot. It smells of coffee, cocoa and some faint barnyard. Smelling this cigar at the foot makes my nose tingle because of the major spicy aroma coming off of it.
After a clean cut with my Palio cutter, the draw is slightly open with flavors of earth, leather and dusty cocoa. Once lit, the initial flavors are chocolate, leather and some of the classic Pepin spice. This definitely tastes like a Pepin blend, his trademark is all over the flavor profile. There is a really nice savory flavor on the finish. The ash holds for just under an inch and the burn is razor sharp. I really like the slight press to this cigar, its a very comfortable cigar to smoke. At the halfway point there is a slight vegetal characteristic, but it isn't unpleasant. There is also a molasses like sweetness, nice and dark and very tasty. The whole flavor profile has actually darkened up a bit, and the cigar has moved into the medium/full bodied category. The smoke coming out of this cigar is quite thick.
This is a much different cigar than the other La Aroma De Cuba's, coming in as a much darker and richer cigar. The construction is perfect, burning razor sharp the entire length of the cigar. This is definitely a Pepin blend, and anyone that smokes Pepin's cigars knows what I am talking about. He has some signature flavors he likes in his blends, and this is another very nice offering if you like that profile. I lost my reciept so I can't remember exactly what I paid for this one, but it seems like the going rate is right around 6.50 to 7 bucks, making this a fairly affordable cigar.
