Tatuaje "The Face"

Happy Halloween everyone! Todays horrifying review is of The Face, which is the 3rd release (not counting The Boris) in the Tatuaje Monster Series! The last two releases were The Frank and The Drac. If you hadn't already guessed, the monster this cigar is named after is Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This cigar measures in at 6 3/8 X 56, and has a Mexican wrapper and Nicaraguan binder/filler. This year's release was handled a little differently than previous years. 666 boxes of the dress box were released (a roughed up box with some blood splattered on it) and 1300 plain boxes of 10, which is what I was able to get my hands on. Instead of a paper band, this cigar has a lighter piece of torn wrapper leaf placed where the band would go, mirroring Leatherfaces mask. The wrapper droops off the end of the cigar, making for a covered foot that Pete has used before. The cap has sort of a nipple top. I love the torn piece of wrapper leaf as the band, it looks hand torn and roughly put on, just how it should be!
This is an ugly cigar, which is appropriate for something called The Face. The dark brown wrapper has a few veins, but is actually pretty smooth to the touch. The predraw shows a musty flavor with some cedar and has a perfect draw. Once lit, it starts out with a little bit of spice and some great smooth sweetness. It is a rather mild start, much different than your typical Tatuaje. As I get further into The Face, some leather, light coffee and more cedar take over as the dominant flavors. The burn is razor sharp, and the first bit of ash fell off at right around 2 inches.
The construction is really top notch. The further I get into this cigar, the richer and creamier it gets. At the halfway point, this is a solid medium/full bodied cigar. The sweetness has developed into a caramel like flavor, which is really tasty! Once I reach the the "band" it still burns great and dead even. The only negative thing is that a small split has developed right above the band, but it doesn't seem to have affected the burn or quality of this cigar. In the last inch, a really nice nuttyness has shown up, making for a great finish! The strength really amps up at the end as well, making for a solid full bodied cigar. A great finish to a monstrous cigar. I only had to ash this cigar twice, which really shows how solidly these are made.
The Face was really tasty! There is plenty of flavor and it really stands apart from any of the other Tatuaje cigars I have smoked. Like the other Monster cigars, this sells for $13 a piece, which seems like a very fair price for a limited release and such a huge cigar! I really like how Pete did the 10 count boxes as well as the 13 count dress boxes. People that wanted to hunt for the fancy blood splattered boxes are happy, as well as people like me who just wanted to get their hands on the cigar and were able to get the plain 10 count box. I can't wait to smoke more of these!
